The brothers, Basit and Amjad Farooq Alvi, owned a computer store called Brain Computer Services in Lahore, Pakistan. The Farooq brothers are computer engineers. They created computer software programmes as well as sold other company's programmes, for example, Lotus 1, 2, 3. These copies were 'bootlegged' even though in Pakistan piracy is legal.

In January 1986, Why the Brain?The Farooq brothers decided to retaliate against the pirates. Their own software was been copied and sold by others without their permission. In January 1986, they decided to create the Brain which was not completed until September 1986.
The Brain
The Brain is a computer virus for IBM-PCs and compatibles running PC-DOS or IBM-DOS operating systems. The virus temporarily lost memory from the floppy disc, changed the boot strap name, slowed the hard drive, and hid a copyright message in the boot sector.
